When was the last time you stepped through a door? Most likely you didn’t even pay attention. We step through doors in our home dozens of times, if not more, every day, and it doesn’t take much thought on our part. A door is, however, one of those things that might seem simple enough but is a lot more complicated than it looks.
You want your doors to close tight, but at the same time not be tough to open and close. They need to swing in a straight line, so as not to scrape the floor on the one end.
Installing a door is definitely one of those things that separate an experienced carpenter from an inexperienced one. Your doorframe, the hinges, the door, and the hardware all play a part in how well your door works. Even cutting the door to size so as to fit a non-standard doorframe is no simple task.
So, next time you step through a door, check if it was installed by a pro or a novice.
